WPP shares firmer as market closed last night

Shares in WPP recovered some of their composure by the time the London stock market closed last night, following their 17% fall within half an hour of the market opening after the issue of yesterday’s gloomy trading update.

But the decline restarted this morning.

Yesterday the share price had slid bumpily downwards from 1056p after the group reported poor revenue performance, a plan to sell a stake in its Kantar research division and the forthcoming departure of the group’s long-serving group finance director Paul Richardson next year when he will have reached the age of 60 (see WPP to dilute Kantar stake as group revenue falls).
