The favourable resolution of long-running negotiations about its tax liabilities added £106 million to WPP’s post-tax profit for 2011, contributing towards a 43.4% increase over the previous year. The tax credit was due to “the resolution of a number of open matters”. The total tax charge, after deducting the exceptional credit, was a mere £92 million on a £1 billion profit or 9%.
