SEC – just one helpful Italian investor?

When Porta Communications announced a welcome £3 million investment by the Italian public relations group SEC earlier this week, few people were likely to have known much about the Milan based business, let alone that it already had a UK stock market listing on AIM.

Established in 1989, SEC’s founder and controlling shareholder Fiorenzo Tagliabue seems to have had two key preoccupations in the development of his public relations business.  First, it would be essential to extend its global reach by acquiring agencies far beyond its Italian roots.   And secondly, it would be important to ensure that former owners and/or local managements retained a sizeable minority shareholding in the acquired businesses.
