Read to address WPP’s under-performing US businesses

WPP’s new chief executive officer Mark Read has committed himself to addressing the group’s disappointing performance in the United States in presenting the group’s half year results to 30 June.

Announcing a 3.6% decline in the group’s gross income (revenue net of pass-through costs), the half year figures also revealed that gross income from the US had fallen by 10.6% partly because of adverse currency movements.

“Headline profit” before interest and tax, abnormal and various other items slipped by almost 14% in the United States during the latest half year.
