Omnicom Group’s 7% growth in revenue during 2010 fell far short of that reported by Publicis Groupe last week (see Publicis impresses with 2010 results). Nevertheless both groups showed better growth in the final quarter than in the year as a whole.
Omnicom’s revenue growth for the year compared with 19.8% achieved by Publicis. Part of the reason for the poorer performance was that Omnicom gained very little from foreign currency translation gains and losses, whereas Publicis was far more fortunate. Without the foreign currency translation benefits Publicis would have reported much lower growth – albeit still impressive at 14.4% with a little help from its acqusition of Digitas and Razorfish.
